Our work is not complete once a patient is safely transported to the most appropriate hospital. Harrison EMS follows strict patient care protocols set by our physician medical director, which are based on the most current industry standards and survival data. This means that HEMS providers have the unique advantage of always having access to guidance from a medical doctor when responding to emergencies. Harrison EMS also works closely with each receiving hospital to evaluate patient outcomes for specific emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes and other serious problems. We then use this data to continually revise and improve our own treatment modalities.
Hospitals know that Harrison EMS is 100% patient focused and expects the best quality of treatment for those we serve. That is why we follow up on many of the patients our team transports to the emergency room. It’s this unique system of checks and balances that has elevated patient care across all health care systems here in Westchester County. We are constantly reviewing and evaluating all our providers through our Quality Assurance and Improvement program, so that Harrison and surrounding community residents we serve will receive the best medical care when they need it most.
Before a patient even arrives at the hospital, Harrison EMS providers ensures the attending nurses and physicians have critical diagnostic information in hand. For example, if we respond to a patient experiencing heart attack symptoms, the paramedic will perform an EKG (Electrocardiogram) and electronically send the results to the receiving hospital for review. Using the most advanced electronic equipment ensures that Harrison EMS is able to remain in constant contact with the attending hospital team that will take over the patient’s care.
